Montreux, Switzerland

Dear EDF Members
Dear Corporate supporting Members
Dear Guests

Once again, and for the 22nd consecutive year, the European Dermatology Forum will hold its annual scientific meeting, open to members, guests and sponsoring partners.

This annual meeting takes place each January in Switzerland and is designed to address several of the significant issues impacting on dermatolovenereology, ranging from clinical to political matters.

For January 2019, we will meet again in Montreux, a wonderful venue located on the Lake Geneva shoreline at the foot of the Alps. This small city hosts many international private schools, historic hotels and famous music festivals including the Montreux Jazz Festival. The English rock band “Deep Purple” came to Montreux in December 1971 to record Machine Head. The band's famous song "Smoke on the Water" tells of the events of December 1971 when a Frank Zappa fan with a flare gun set the Montreux Casino on fire, destroying the casino where they had originally planned to record the album. Thanks to Claude Nobs, the former Music Director of the Festival who found an alternative location for the band to record, the Grand Hotel was where the album was finally created, apart from “Smoke on the Water” which was recorded at Le Petit Palais (Montreux Palace Hotel). Deep Purple again returned in 1973 to record Burn. The Montreux Casino was reopened in 1975 and later a monument commemorating Deep Purple and their famous song can be found next to the casino. Thankfully, visiting Englishmen these days seem to have repressed any tendency towards wild behaviour or acts of random hooliganism!

The 2019 EDF Meeting will be held at the charming Hotel Suisse Majestic**** located on the lake promenade and immediately opposite the train station. The dinner on Friday evening will be a wonderful occasion, being held at the former residence of Sir Charlie Chaplin in Corsier-sur-Vevey near Montreux. Before the dinner, a visit of the Chaplin’s World Studios, will be organized for our members and guest.

For the main meeting, as usual we will discuss and debate a wide range of current dermatology and dermatovenereology topics. A full list of activities can be seen in the preliminary program.

Please come and join us from Thursday 24th to Saturday 26th January 2019 and ensure the success of the meeting.

To participate in the 22nd EDF Meeting you will need to register; online registrations can be received at any time up to and including 31st October 2018.
